Janet's Clinical Practice
Janet has been a psychotherapist for over twenty-five years. She graduated from Smith College School for Social Work in 1985 and has been practicing in the Danbury, Connecticut area since that time. She worked at the Danbury Hospital Outpatient Mental Health Center for six years, then went on to establish a private practice.
Janet has a general practice and sees clients with a wide range of problems and issues. In addition to her general practice, she has had much experience working with clients who experience the following types of needs and concerns:
- anxiety and stress management (additional expertise in the area of public speaking and performing anxiety)
- depression
- relationship & marital difficulties (individual and couples counseling)
- divorce
- work issues
- compulsive eating and weight concerns
- women's issues
- self-esteem, self-confidence, and personal development
- meditation and mindfulness practice and creating a healthier lifestyle
Janet sees individual adults, ranging from young adults to seniors, and she also does couples therapy. She works with her clients in many different ways depending upon the individual needs of the client. Janet is an active therapist and gives feedback and guidance after listening closely to the client. Some of the methods she uses include cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, psychodynamic, supportive, and goal-oriented types of therapy and counseling. She is also trained in EMDR and uses that method when indicated.
Janet has a holistic approach in working with clients. She pays close attention to the whole person on the level of body, mind, and spirit and guides clients in a way that will optimize their overall well-being as well as addressing their specific concerns. Janet is known for her warm, caring manner and her positive, uplifting spirit and many clients have commented that this has made a big difference in their therapy experience.
In both her clinical practice and coaching practice, Janet helps her clients discover the hidden opportunities in their life challenges. She helps clients work with their challenges to gain new levels of self-awareness, confidence, and strength. Janet teaches her clients a set of skills to master their challenges and become more resilient to stress. She also guides and encourages her clients to create lifestyle practices that help them to better manage stress and to support their overall health and well-being.
Janet currently works in her Danbury office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday. She brings her golden retriever dog April to the office and her clients find that this adds a nice touch to the office environment. Terri, who is Janet’s assistant in her Danbury office, is happy to check insurance benefits for anyone who wants to see Janet for therapy or for an initial consultation. Most clients use their out-of-network benefit plan as Janet is not participating in provider networks. Janet also works on a fee for service basis for those clients who do not have insurance or who do not wish to use their insurance plan.
Please feel free to contact Janet directly if you are interested in setting up an initial appointment.
